In 2015, at a global ageing conference in Perth, Australia, Jack York and Francis from Cameroon met by chance, put together to speak on a panel. One was an American entrepreneur in senior living, the other a grassroots leader fighting for basic resources in Cameroon, from older adults to the youth. The conversation was brief, but something stuck—a gut feeling that this was more than a passing moment.
Over the years, that instinct has blossomed into a remarkable partnership. Together, Jack and Francis have helped bring clean water, safe bathrooms, and access to education to tens of thousands of Cameroonians. They’ve raised funds, told stories, and inspired others—not through massive foundations or political clout, but through trust, persistence, and the belief that one connection can change everything. Their story is living proof that meaningful change can come from unexpected places—and that one conversation can ripple across the world.
The presentation closes with this invitation: look around you. Who have you met, or might still meet, that you’re meant to build something with? The world changes when we trust our instincts, when we take risks, and when we choose to believe in each other.
